About us

Bray Comhaltas is part of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, which is the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music. Comhaltas is a non-profit cultural movement with hundreds of local branches around the world and was founded in 1951.

The Bray branch is run entirely by volunteers and only our teachers are reimbursed for their time. We have a branch committee that is elected at our AGM each year. As a branch member, you are invited to attend and vote at this meeting. Outside of the committee we always welcome additional volunteers to help us, particularly by volunteering an hour or two on a Thursday night.

We are governed by the Constitution of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, and have an elected voluntary management committee, with a formal Annual General Meeting each October.

We teach traditional Irish music on all instruments:

  • Tin whistle, Flute, Fiddle, Banjo, Bodhran, Concertina, Uileann Pipes, Harp, Guitar
We teach group music, for multiple participants on different instruments.

Our students come from all over North Wicklow, Ireland.

All of our teachers and committee are Garda Vetted in accordance with the national Child Protection Guidelines laid down by Comhaltas.
